3. Manufacturing difficulties
As circuit designs become more complex and high-speed, how to ensure the integrity of various signals (especially high-speed signals), that is, to ensure signal quality, has become a problem. Inadequate impedance control will cause considerable signal reflection and signal distortion, leading to design failure. Common signals, such as PCI bus, PCI-E bus, USB, Ethernet, DDR memory, LVDS signals, etc., require impedance matching. Impedance control ultimately needs to be realized through PCB design, which also puts forward higher requirements on PCB board craftsmanship. For PCB production, we control impedance through 4 links:
a. The thickness of the dielectric layer, namely the choice of PP and the core board, has a great influence on the impedance.
b. Line width/line spacing control, impedance line width/line spacing control directly affects the impedance value, so the impedance line tolerance control is generally more stringent than ordinary lines.
c. The control of copper thickness, and the influence of copper thickness uniformity on impedance is also a link that cannot be ignored. Therefore, when producing impedance boards, we generally reduce the electroplating current, extend the electroplating time, and ensure better uniformity.
d. Solder mask thickness control. The thickness of the solder mask ink also has a certain influence on the solder mask value, but its influence is not as great as the first three, so it is often ignored by people and leads to poor impedance.
